organisation profile

The National Network of Regional Coastal Monitoring Programmes (NNRCMP) is a scheme for the collection of data on coastal change and the drivers of that change, collecting a variety of hydrodynamic and survey data to provide the underpinning evidence for Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management (FCERM) in England. The programme employs a consistent and targeted data collection strategy and aims to maximise the use of the data for all coastal practitioners by making all data and reporting freely available.

The NNRCMP is comprised of six Regional Coastal Monitoring Programmes (RCMPs):
1. Northeast (North East Coastal Observatory): Scottish Border to Flamborough Head
2. East Riding (East Riding Regional Coastal Monitoring): Flamborough Head to Spurn Point
3. Anglian (Anglian Coastal Monitoring Programme): Grimsby to Purfleet
4. Southeast (Channel Coastal Observatory): Isle of Grain to Portland Bill
5. Southwest (South West Coastal Monitoring): Portland Bill to Chepstow
6. Northwest (Northwest Regional Coastal Monitoring): River Dee to the Scottish Border

The programme is delivered on behalf of the Regional Coastal Groups of England and is funded by DEFRA in partnership with Local Authorities and the Environment Agency.

The Channel Coastal Observatory (CCO) is the data management and regional coordination centre for the Southeast RCMP. The CCO collates and quality-controls all wave, tide and meteorological data collected by the NNRCMP.
