- The British Institutions Reflection Profiling Syndicate (BIRPS) was founded in 1981 to acquire, processes and interpret seismic data from the lithosphere. The data were collected using commercial contractors and are publicly released. Data are from multi-channel deep seismic reflection studies, mainly of the UK/Irish continental shelf, have been gathered by the BIRPS syndicate. Processed data are archived by BGS who make them available subject to the cost of reproduction and handling.
