organisation profile
Forshaga municipality is situated 20 km north of the lake Vänern, the largest lake in Western Europe. Forshaga with around 12,000 inhabitants, lies in the south of the river Klarälven valley. Its two main centres, Forshaga and Deje, are characterised by their proximity to the river which is rich in both fish and myth. Salmon fishing has been a significant activity here since the Middle Ages.
The river Klarälven flows through the area and the rapids of Forshaga and Deje and this southern part of the river is an exciting place for the sport fisher. In the surroundings of Forshaga municipality there are many small lakes where you find lovely places to take a swim or peaceful places suitable for angling. Visitors to Forshaga are offered a great many other activities as well: the golf course near Dömle, hiking and tours on bicycle, swimming in the lakes and both cross-country and downhill skiing in winter. All children, big as well as small, can come and visit our real live Father Christmas who has been authorized by Santa Claus and the Greenland Foundation.
The two main employers are the local authorities and Stora Enso AB. The municipality is bustling with small companies within both the industrial and service sectors.
A few years ago Forshaga was awarded the prize: Best sport fishing municipality in Sweden and the Sport Fishing Academy provide a local branch of education in sport fishing and sport fishing tourism at both upper secondary school level and university level.
Forshaga features a variety of natural scenery in a smaller format. In Forshaga you can catch the most exclusive salmon on the river Klarälven, ride a horse through the deepest forest, play golf on an idyllic course and visit the floating-log museum at Dyvelsten.
