organisation profile
This organisation became part of Natural Resources Wales on 1st April 2013.
One of CCW's roles is to help ensure the conservation and environmentally sustainable management of the Welsh coast and seas. Around 70% of the length of the Welsh coastline now lies within Special Areas of Conservation designated under the EC Habitats Directive.
Marine staff in CCW carry out surveys and research on the distribution of habitats and species and on their sensitivity to change. Current and recent surveys include:
grey seals in North Wales
saline lagoons
bottlenose dolphins and their prey in Cardigan Bay
the Sarnau reefs in Cardigan Bay
seaducks in Carmarthen and Liverpool Bays
horse mussel beds north of the Llyn Peninsula
saltmarshes in the Dee and Severn Estuaries and the Burry Inlet.
