The Caspian Fisheries Research Institute (CaspNIRKh) is one of the oldest research institutions of Russia.
The following research trends are the main at present time:
• status of bioresources and development of recommendations on their rational fishery,
• ecology of fisheries ponds,
• industrial aquaculture.

Primary intent of CaspNIRKh researchers is a complex problem-solving on study, development and efficient use of the Caspian basin water bioresources for the sake of the economic advancement of Russia.

The Institute contains 20 research laboratories including ones in the Republic of Kalmykia, Dagestan as well as the expeditionary base in Volgograd and research fleet.
CaspNIRKh is keeping on and developing the marine researches in the Caspian sea, extending bank of the unique biological and ecological materials as well as presenting scientific forecasts on changes of status of bioresorces and the sea ecosystem as a whole.

Having the richest data bank collected for several decades CaspNIRKh performs investigations throughout the whole water area of the Caspian sea. Despite of the political dissociation of the Caspian Littoral States their research fisheries centers continue close and fruitful cooperation with CaspNIRKh. The institute maintains contacts with the research institutions from abroad - Poland, Hungary, Norway, France, the USA and the other countries. It is the constant organizer and participator of the international scientific conferences and meetings, exhibitions and symposia as well as the documentation center of reliable data organization on the fisheries problems of the Volga-Caspian region. All this contributes to the enhancement of scientific prestige and the deserved international authority of the institute and fish industry of Russia as a whole.
