The Sea Fisheries Institute (SFI) in Gdynia is a state agency, supervised by the Ministry of Transport and Communication. The Institute is engaged in investigations and developmental projects concerning marine ecology, physical and biological oceanography, ichthyology and fisheries. The Institute is actively engaged in international cooperation programmes through the exchange of personnel and information, as well as joint programmes sponsored by various international organizations and governments. The Sea Fisheries Institute (SFI) in Swinoujscie is a branch of SFI Gdynia. It is engaged in investigations concerning water condition, benthos, ichthyoplankton and ichthyology on Zatoka Pomorska (Bay of Pomerania) and Zalew Szczecinski (Szczecin Lagoon).
