The Napoli Section of the Institute of Marine Sciences (ISMAR), a branch of the National Research Council, after an internal reorganization of the marine institutes which included also the creation of two new institutes named IRBIM and IAS from the former ISMAR and IAMC, joined the other territorial units (Bologna, Venezia, La Spezia, Roma, Trieste) in 2018. The Napoli Section of ISMAR carries out mainly marine geology and carthography studies in the Italian seas.
