The service has general competence in pearling, fisheries and aquaculture. This competence is exercised more precisely in the fields of exploration, exploitation and development of the living resources of rivers, lakes, groundwaters and springs, soil, subsoil and overjacent waters of inland waters, including the roads and lagoons, the territorial sea and the exclusive economic zone off the coast of French Polynesia.
DRM is responsible for following tasks:
- design and propose various elements of pearl farming, fisheries and aquaculture policy in French Polynesia, followed by the implementation of the country's strategic guidelines and to monitor and evaluate them,
- manage and preserve aquatic resources under its competence for responsible use;
- to promote the economic development of the sector by contributing in particular to the strengthening of the capacities for innovation and the development of various productive sectors, in order to facilitate their adaptation and their integration into local and external markets.
