organisation profile

The Unidade de Investigacao em Eco-Etologia (Eco-Ethology Research Unit), UIE, is part of the Instituto Superior de Psicologia Aplicada, Lisboa (Institute of Applied Psychology, Lisbon) and is a member of the Portuguese IMAR (Institute of Marine Research) network. UIE operates on several research lines centred on the behaviour and ecology of inshore organisms. It is gathering data on breeding seasons, nest sites, population structure and behaviour of several species of intertidal fishes on the western and southern coasts of Portugal. It also surveys a population of the bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) at the Sado estuary. It coordinates the development of a data base on the zoogeography of littoral fishes along the southwest coast of Europe and the Atlantic (Madeira and Azores archipelagos). The data are not yet organised in data base form, but are available through published papers and can be freely exchanged with other scientific institutions on a bilateral basis. Only minimal costs of compilation and mailing will be charged. Requests for commercial use of data are subject to special negotiation. A list of published material is available on request.
