Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) was established by the Climate Authority Act No.2 of 2019 through Government Proclamation GN 459 of 14 June 2019. It is responsible for coordinating, managing and providing weather services in the United Republic of Tanzania.
This authority is based on the Tanzania Climate Agency Act established by the Agency Act Chapter No. 245 of the Year 2022. Before the weather agency, the country's meteorological services were provided by the former National Weather Service (Directorate of Meteorology) which was established in 1977 after the breakup of the former East African Community, which was responsible for monitoring and reporting weather in the country. Before the East African Community, the country's weather services were provided under the colonial Meteorological Institute.
