The Banyuls Observation Sea Service was renamed in 2015, but officially created in 1997. It is based on a long tradition of ocean observation in Banyuls-Sur-Mer in the field of biological, chemical and physical dynamics. It aims to develop our knowledge of the temporal and spatial dynamics that characterize the functioning of the marine ecosystems, by the acquisition of various series of long term measurements at key stations along the coastal-offshore gradient. This allows discriminating natural from disturbed evolution of a system in taking into account seasonal and/or interannual variability. The BOSS missions are:
- To participate in national and international monitoring programs
- To provide an operational and scientific platform for collective research projects
- To produce reproducible data for the long-term management of the marine system
- To promote education and awareness of the health status of the oceans.
