Section of phycology, Biological Deaprtment is teaching
and performing research within most aspects of marine and freshwater
phycology. Most research projects fall into the following categories: taxonomy and identification, autecology, toxic plankton algae, biogeography, ultrastructure, evolution and phylogeny.

The department is the home of the Scandinavian Culture Centre for Algae and Protozoa where a large collection of marine and freshwater algae is maintained. The department also houses the The IOC Science and Communication Centre on Harmful Algae. http://www.bi.ku.dk/phycology/tox/
