The Bras d’Or Institute team includes undergraduate and graduate students, as well as Research Associates and together they work collaboratively with research and community partners to further understand these amazing and dynamic ecosystems and manage behaviours that affect them.
History
The Bras d'Or Institute was established in 1972 at the St. Francis Xavier University Sydney Campus (NS), with the goal of stimulating research, development and enquiry relevant to Cape Breton Island. It is now part of the Cape Breton University.
The College of Cape Breton was founded in 1974 as the merger of the Nova Scotia Eastern Institute of Technology and the St. Francis Xavier University Sydney Campus. The College expanded and became the University College of Cape Breton in 1982. The University was renamed Cape Breton University in 2005.
The full name "Bras d'Or Institute for Ecosystem Research" is in use since 2008, though the short form "Bras d'Or Institute" is still used.
