Nofima, the Norwegian Institute of Food, Fisheries and Aquaculture Research, was established January 1, 2008. Nofima is Europe’s largest institute for applied research within the fields of fisheries, aquaculture and food.
The company was established from Akvaforsk, Fiskeriforskning, Matforsk, Norconserv and relevant commercial R&D activities at the administrative bodies of the Norwegian Institute of Marine Research, the Norwegian National Institute of Nutrition and Seafood Research and the Norwegian National Veterinary Institute.
The research work in Nofima is organized in three divisions: Division Aquaculture, Division Fisheries, Industry and Market, and Division Food Science. The head office is located in Tromsø, and the research divisions are located in Averøy, Bergen, Sunndalsøra, Stavanger, Tromsø and Ås.
