organisation profile

Located on the Centre Ifremer de Brest, the laboratory of Physiology of Invertebrates is linked to the Department of Marine Organisms Functional Physiology. The linking of the laboratory with the Laboratory of Marine Biology and Biotechnology (LBBM) from the University of Caen has materialized since 2004 by a UMR 100 Physiology and Ecophysiology of Marine Organisms (PE2M) renewed in 2008 for four years. The main objective is to develop research in support of development of the shellfish industry, dominated by oyster farming in France. If the oyster Crassostrea gigas is the main biological model in our laboratory, other organisms are studied as the oyster and scallop . Research areas targeting the main physiological functions of the oyster, such as reproduction, growth and survival, consistent with the objectives set implemented in consultation with the profession. The laboratory will be assigned from 2012 to the UMR 6539 LEMAR , with the laboratory ARN (Adaptation, Reproduction and Nutrition of Fish) of IFREMER. The UMR 100 M PE2M exists only until the end of 2011.
