The Institute of Nuclear Technology - Radiation Protection is a part of the National Centre for Scientific Research 'Demokritos' (www.demokritos.gr). The Environmental Radioactivity Laboratory of the INT-RP is the only Greek laboratory officially responsible for the national monitoring programme on environmental radioactivity, in the frame of the E.U. progamme (REM - Radioactivity Environmental Monitoring) according to EURATOM Treaty. It provides radioctivity measurements of environmental components on behalf of the Greek Atomic Energy Commission.
Besides, a programme on a basis of third party services is being carrying out at ERL, dealing in certifying the radiological status of consumption products (exported - imported) as well as, of various materials for public use. In the frame of this programme several technical studies have been also carried out on environmental quality assessment of sites for industrial land use. ERL/NCSR'D' is a primarily research laboratory involved in environmental studies. In the framework of its research activities a marine radioecology project is being carried out, which provides active data and methodology for environmental quality assessment. It collaborates with Institutions and Universities in EU research projects and billateral collaborations and international organizations (IAEA, WHO, erc) on the matter of issue. ERL reserves the right to charge other users the marginal costs involved in making data available, e.g. overheads and costs of copying, material and postage.
