- The Hydrobiology Laboratory belongs to the Institute of Biology, one of the eight Institutes of the National Research Centre for Physical Sciences 'Demokritos'. The marine research activities of the HL/NRCPSD are confined to phytoplankton ecology of the Aegean Sea (Eastern Mediterranean). The major part of the collected data has been published in international scientific journals. A data service has also been provided to the Ministry of the Environment to be used for planning the Athen's sewage treatment system.
