: Kyiv National University is an institution of higher education that trains specialists in many fields of knowledge and carries out researches. Although this description can be applied to any other institution of similar kind but it is the number-one Ukrainian university, and a major centre of advanced learning and progressive thinking. Kyiv University dates back to the first half of the 17th century. The Kyiv Mohyla Academy, founded in 1632, provided the foundation upon which Kyiv University was subsequently built. This Academy, whose history spanned almost two hundred years, was the first establishment of higher education in Ukraine. Today, the Kyiv Taras Shevchenko National University is a multidisciplinary educational and scientific complex, which comprises 14 faculties, 5 institutes, Centers of Qualification and Requalification of Foreign Citizens and Center of Ukrainian Studies, the Institute of Research and Development in Physiology, Botanical Garden, Zoological Museum, M.Maksymovych Scientific Library, the IT Center, an Astronomical observatory, and a Publishing-polygraphic center. Kyiv National University employs more than 2000 of academic and about 1000 scientific staff at 158 departments. 82% of the lecturers have an academic degrees and academic statuses, in particular 24% of the lecturers are Doctors of Sciences or Professors. Kyiv National University maintains contacts with many universities and research centres throughout the world.
