- Since the establishment in 1929 the Institute of Water Management of Georgia (GWMI) has been engaged in scientific investigations relative to solving of the following problems: irrigation, water industry, erosion, debris flows, protection of soils and forests, water-reservoirs and rivers, safety of hydraulic structures, protection of the environment from natural disasters, protection on the shore of the Black Sea, sediment load of the rivers and maximum permissible level of their pollution etc. Since 1932 until the present Colkheti (City of Poti) Ecological Station has been operated in the Institute for prognostication and prevention of deformation near the shore of the Black Sea. At present, the Institute employs 72 specialists, including 52 % - scientists: 2 – academicians of Georgia National Academy of Sciences, 1 – corresponding members of Georgia Academy of Agricultural Sciences, 7 – with doctor’s scientific degrees, 14 – with doctor’s academical degrees and, 4 – with master’s degrees. The Institute possesses unique hydrotechnical laboratory, one of the biggest in Europe, equipped with modern equipment, pumping station with 12 engines and pumps, hardware etc. In 2005, the Institute Staff has been awarded the Certificate of Degree “Century International Quality Era Award” of Switzerland for a high quality of scientific researches and designs.The number of projects has been cultivated in Georgian Management Institute in the Black Sea basin in the recent years, including Erosion-Debris-Flow Phenomena in Basin Black Sea and Measures For Fight Against Them (2002-2003); Safety of Environment of the crossing of river course by pipelines (2004);The Methodology of Design of Anti erosion Hydrotecnical Constructions (2004);Memory for defend of Population from Element Phenomena (2005); Global Wormer spell of Climate and its Influence on Natural Catastrophes in the Black Sea basin (2007);
