organisation profile

Fields of activity The specialist fields of the Department are centred on disciplines that form the engineering and scientific basis for the development of buildings, comprising load-bearing structures and building services as well as bridge structures and other civil engineering structures. Furthermore, hydraulic and hydrological problems in relation to environmental plants and projects, physical geography mainly aimed at environmental and resource issues, and geotechnical and flow-mechanical problems in civil engineering structures such as pipelines, harbour and canal structures, offshore structures, wind turbines and wave energy plants are central fields for the Department. Teaching The teaching activities of the Department are primarily related to the BSc programmes in Building Technology and Civil Engineering and the MSc programmes in Structural Engineering, Management in the Building Industry, Water and Environment, Indoor Environmental Technology (see the special web site for more information), and the MSc programme in Architecture and Design as well as the MSc programme in Physical Geography. The study programmes are administered by the student-staff committees for Civil Engineering and Architecture and Design, respectively. Further, the international programmes Master of Science Programme in Indoor Environmental Engineering and a Master of Science Programme in Civil Engineering are offered, where teaching in English is required. Also, a Master Programme in Wind Energy and a Master Programme in Information Technology, Industrial IT are offered. The Department contributes to PhD programmes for all the subject areas, which are covered by the Department. See the list of recent PhD programmes of the department. Information of all study programmes offered at Aalborg University as well as information of all rules of admission and other requirements can be seen from the Study Programme Guide (so far, in Danish only). Research The research of the Department, which is conducted within the research divisions and research centres, and in the laboratories, mainly covers the fields of * design methods in building technology * IT in civil engineering * structural reliability * structural and material stability * material modelling * structural dynamics and structural fatigue * fracture mechanics * design * concrete and wood technology * air distribution and contaminant distribution in rooms * dynamic temperature conditions in rooms * hybrid ventilation * hydraulic and hydrological problems in relation to environmental plants and projects * physical geography mainly aimed at environmental and resource issues * geotechnical and flow-mechanical problems in civil engineering structures such as pipelines, harbour and canal structures, offshore structures, wind turbines and wave energy plants.
