The department houses engineering study programmes in Biotechnology, Chemistry, and Environmental Engineering, and a science study programme in Biology, and Chemistry. Research is carried out within these main areas. The department also houses a Ph.D. school common to all Ph.D. students covering diverse research areas in basic and applied biology and chemistry. The department staff comprises 60 researcher in different positions, 40 Ph.D. students and 40 technicians. 60 engineers graduate from the department each year. The department is divided into five sections each covering a main study programme and the associated research: * Section of Biotechnology * Section of Biotechnology and Bioenergy * Section of Chemistry * Section of Chemical Engineering * Section of Environmental Engineering The major part of the department is located at the university campus at Sohngaardsholmsvej in Aalborg, while the Section of Biotechnology and Bioenergy is situated in Copenhagen, and the Section of Chemical Engineering is situated in Esbjerg.
