The Technical Division (DT) of the Institut National des Sciences de l'Univers (INSU) is an Unité Propre de Service (UPS 855) of the CNRS. It brings together about fifty agents at the engineer, technician or administrative level, as well as about fifty sailors. The DT carries out many tasks at the national level, including
- the implementation of a fleet of two frontier vessels and seven coastal vessels;
- the provision of laboratories carrying out measurements at sea with a fleet of offshore and inshore oceanographic instrumentation;
- the management and implementation of the Glider National Park;
- the management and implementation of the continental and lake coring centre;
- the maintenance and provision of a mobile geophysical park;
- participation in SAFIRE for the management and implementation of three research aircraft;
- the development and maintenance of numerous national instruments.
