organisation profile

UMR 66112 Laboratoire de Planétologie et Géodynamique develops both geological and planetological research programmes with the aim of understanding the evolutionary processes of each planet and the interactions between internal and external envelopes.
The LPG's scientific activities related to STMs are carried out within the 'Marine Systems in Transition' theme, which brings together research projects conducted on the laboratory's sites in Angevin and Nantes. These activities are divided into 3 sub-themes:
- Functioning of current marine ecosystems: Researchers are interested in understanding current pelagic and benthic marine ecosystems, with the aim of gaining a better understanding of fossil messages.
- Paleo-oceanography: Research is particularly focused on the development and calibration of proxies, and their application in the reconstructions of Pleistocene and Holocene environmental changes. This research is primarily based on the understanding of current marine ecosystems and forcing processes by combining biological, biogeochemical and sedimentological approaches.
- Land-Sea Continuum: better understanding of the functioning of watersheds and river mouths that are a vector for the transfer of matter between continents and oceans, combining multidisciplinary expertise on urban, agricultural, mining, lake, coastal and marine environments. Study of the processes of transfer of chemical elements; management of soil and sediment pollution by bioremediation / phytoremediation; study of sediment dynamics along rivers and the coastline; the impact of human activities on the marine and coastal environment through bio-indication, where problems such as eutrophication, ocean acidification and pollution are addressed through organisms that integrate these stresses.
