University of Tromsų (UiT) is one of seven universities in Norway. Campus is in Breivika, three kilometers from Tromsų centre. With a location at 69 degrees north, it is the world's northernmost university. UiT has about 6000 students and about 1800 employees.
Like all other universities in Norway, UiT has research, education and communication as main tasks.The geography provides a major advantage when it comes to studies and research related to the northern and arctic regions. The northern and the arctic regions are important for many subjects, but global perspective and comparative studies between North and South is also key elements.
Although UiT is a small university, the subject areas are plentiful. The University covers all types of subjects and there are more than 100 programs to choose from.
