On 1 January 2007, parts of Ørsted DTU and the Department of Informatics and Mathematical Modeling at DTU merged with the Danish National Space Institute.
Until 2007, the Danish National Space Institute (DNSC) was an independent government research institute with its roots dating back to the beginning of the space age in 1962. The DNSC experienced its first merger in 2005 with the research unit of the Danish National Survey and Cadastre adding the fields Geodesy and Geodynamics.
The mergers have brought together most space related activities in Denmark, now forming the National Space Institute (NSI) with a staff of more than 110 persons.
