The Service operates in the field of physical oceanography. The main activities are represented by the collection and analysis of data related to marine currents and sea waves. The measurement activity is carried out all along the Italian coasts, with special regard to the geographic sites more relevant to ENEL's necessities. Research studies are concerned with scientific studies as well as engineering characterization of marine environment for coastal zone management and sea plants planning. The methodological approach includes:
a) standard and special data collection procedures;
b) management and processing of measured data; and
c) data interpretation and analysis.
The data held by the Service can be exchanged by previous official request to ENEL SPA - CRIS Central Direction and on the basis of specific arrangement with the scientists involved in their original collection. From 2000 the Centre no longer exists.
