- To answer these challenges and public expectations, Météo-France has established a French National Centre for Meteorological Research (CNRM) to handle most of its research activity and co-ordinate its internal research and development initiatives as a whole. These research and development initiatives are mainly guided by public service needs in the meteorological field: weather forecasting, atmospheric dynamics and physics; knowledge of the climate; interaction between humankind, the climate and the atmosphere. The French National Centre for Meteorological Research works in a wide variety of research fields. Although these are centred on the atmosphere, they extend to the frontiers of meteorology, notably covering atmospheric chemistry, oceanography, surface hydrology, etc.
