Part of the Ministry of Equipment, Transport and Housing, or under its direction, some 20 bodies of engineering schools and services make up what is known as the scientific and technical equipment network - a generic term that refers to the planning and management of the French territories, the coast, the transportation networks and infrastructure.
Active throughout France, the network works in several areas, initial or further training, research and experimentation, methodology and improvement of the state of art, engineering, quality control of works and certification. Its work benefits the ministry itself, administration in general, and also local public institutions and companies.
