organisation profile
- Founded in 1872, the Roscoff Marine Station (SBR) is a center for research and higher education in marine biology and ecology. It is jointly run by the National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) and the Sorbonne Université (Paris).
The SBR has set its research focus on basic biology and marine biodiversity and ecosystems. Research in these fields draws on the latest methods in molecular and cell biology, in particular genomics and its derivatives, and interfaces them with environmental sciences, chemistry and mathematics. Like the other UPMC marine stations, the SBR organizes courses (master and bachelor degrees as well as summer courses) that are integral parts of the curricula of the undergraduate and graduate degrees offered at Sorbonne Université. The Roscoff Marine Station is also a coastal environment observatory and runs biodiversity monitoring programs. It provides access to the Western English Channel waters as well as to an exceptional variety of benthic habitats, most of which are accessible at low tide.
The SBR also offers a rich panel of services and core facilities that are open to the national and international scientific community and to the private sector.
