Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) is the department of the Government of Canada with responsibility for coordinating environmental policies and programs as well as preserving and enhancing the natural environment and renewable resources. 

ECCC conducts science and technology activities at facilities across Canada, each with specialized analytical support. Research and monitoring programs are carried out in every region.

 

Its Climate Research Division is currently (2019) part of the Science and Technology Branch, Atmosphere Science and Technology Directorate, engaged in research on air quality, climate change, meteorology and impacts and adaptation.

 

History

Canada's Department of Environment (legal title) was founded in 1971. Its applied title was changed from "Environment Canada" (EC) to "Environment and Climate Change Canada" (ECCC) in 2015. 

The Climate Division was previously part of the Canadian Climate Centre, a directorate within EC.
