The French Biodiversity Agency is a public institution of the Ministry of Ecological and Solidarity Transition. It was created on 1 January 2017 and brought together four pre-existing institutions:
- The Marine Protected Areas Agency
- The Technical Workshop of Natural Areas (Aten),
- The National Office for Water and Aquatic Environments (Onema),
- National parks of France.
The French Biodiversity Agency has therefore taken over the marine environment protection missions previously carried out by the French Agency for Marine Protected Areas.
