National Institute of Chemistry (NIC) is a
scientifically excellent, time-honoured European research institution, making
breakthrough discoveries. Our key areas of activity are: biotechnology, life
sciences research, materials research for environmental and energy
applications, theoretical and structural chemistry, analytical chemistry,
nanotechnology, chemical engineering, and food chemistry. We implement basic
and applied research within national research programme and research in EU
projects, train and educate new generations of scientists in doctoral studies
and in cooperation with higher education institutions, and support development
activities of Slovenia and foreign industry. Based on the number of filed
international patents, we are one of Slovenia’s leading public research
organisations: in the last decade, we have filed a total of 68 patent
applications.
Laboratory for Environmental Sciences and Engineering is a top and internationally renowned research group. Our mission is to develop modern processe for water treatment along with catalytic, microbial and enzymatic processes in enrgy and production of high added-value compounds. Furthermore, Study of polymers and plastics on environment are performed within the Department of Polymer Chemistry and technology.
