- To contribute to the knowledge and the exploration of the depths of the oceans by the study of structure and functionning of the ecosystems: Ecosystems associated with the hydrothermal sources on the oceanic ridges, Ecosystems associated with the sources of cold fluids on the continental margins, Ecosystems in sedimentary environment depending indirectly on the surface photosynthetic production: Flow and cycle of the organic matter in the interface water-sediment and benthic answer.
- To contribute to the development and the validation of an instrumentation dedicated to the study of the ecosystems: Machines of sampling of fauna , sediments and fluids, of measurements, of in situ observation and experimentation by oceanographical ships and the submersible machines.
