organisation profile
Environment Agency Geomatics undertakes high quality LIDAR surveys and remote sensing data capture for the provision of integrated spatial data solutions.
Geomatics geospatial products help support a wide range of applications including environmental planning, flood monitoring, asset management and urban planning.
Geomatics offer the capability to capture a range of data types including LIDAR, digital aerial photography, hyperspectral and bathymetry.
The Environment Agency (EA) is an executive non-departmental public body, sponsored by the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) which works to create better places for people and wildlife, and support sustainable development.
The Environment agency is responsible for the following in England: Regulating major industry and waste, treatment of contaminated land; water quality and resources; fisheries; inland river, estuary and harbour navigations; conservation and ecology; managing the risk of flooding from main rivers, reservoirs, estuaries and the sea.
EA’s head office is in Bristol with additional offices across England. Each area office is responsible for the day-to-day management of their local area.
As of 1 April 2013 Natural Resources Wales (NRW) took over the responsibilities of the Environment Agency in Wales.
Environment Agency Geomatics is also host to the Anglian Coastal Monitoring Programme. The programme began in 1987 and was the first regional-scale programme in UK. Its aims have been to provide essential coastal data to inform tidal flood and coastal erosion risk management decisions between the Humber and Thames estuaries, which includes the low-lying and potentially vulnerable Anglian coastal frontage.
