- The Marine Unit is a specialist unit within the Irish Meteorological Service. It maintains a national marine meteorological data base. The data have been collected over time from different sources on different media, including manuscript forms. The data includes wave parameters visually observed, measured and simulated by an in-house numerical model. Some sea temperatures, measured at or near the surface, are included.
The Marine Unit provides data to third parties. Charges are made. These depend
partly on the use to be made of the data and on the amount of work previously
involved in the quality control and archiving of the data. Some proprietary
data, requiring clearance from their owners, are also held.
Data set descriptions have not been prepared for short runs of data at
individual locations.
