- Among other activities, the Department is carrying out research into the use of coastal ecosystems by mudflat birds; the taxonomy, anatomy and histology of marine benthonic invertebrates; characterization of chemical substances in marine animals; briozooa and opisthobranchiae in the Antarctic; a follow up of the installation of artificial reefs. This work is performed mainly along the south western coastline of the Iberian Peninsula (Spain).
