Institute for Environmental Solutions (IES) is a modern research organization whose goal is to advance airborne remote sensing science for wise management of natural resources and environment.
In our research projects we are tackling the 21st century’s major environmental issues, including climate change, reduction of greenhouse gasses, biodiversity, conservation and management of natural resources, energy efficiency, pollution and waste management and others. More specifically, our research is focused on creation of new knowledge and solutions about the synergetic use of different airborne remote sensing systems and data sets for the environmental management.
For this purpose, we have developed and operate the state-of-the-art research facilities including a research aircraft, remote sensing instruments and high-performance data processing system. Currently, IES provides and uses airborne data from the most modern UV, VNIR, SWIR, MWIR hyperspectral imagers, ground height information from a LIDAR system, digital photography from a high resolution RGB camera, and thermal images collected with several thermal infrared sensors.
The modernity of IES lies in the fact that we are an interdisciplinary, network-centric organization. For every new research project we build an interdisciplinary team consisting of established and young researchers as well as industry professionals from Latvia and abroad. Being a relatively small organization, IES is very flexible, fast and independent in its decision making, ensures creative working atmosphere and has reduced bureaucratic procedures to the minimum.
