National Agency for Fisheries and Aquaculture is the specialized central public institution of national interest, with legal personality, financed from the state budget, which functions under the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change. The agency covers the whole territory of Romania, through the four regional branches: Moldova,  Muntenia, Oltenia, Transylvania.

In exercising its functions, the Agency has the primary attribute of national strategy development and specific regulations on fisheries, aquaculture and fisheries market organization and enforcement and compliance. The Agency also has responsibility for defining and implementing policy on the conservation and management of living aquatic resources of natural fish habitats, aquaculture, processing and organization of the market in fishery products.
