- The Institute of Fishery Resources is a state research institute established in 1932. It is the main responsible for the National Monitoring Progrtamme of the Bulgarian Black sea waters and Danube river. Since the early 1950s routine seasonal observations have been carried out by IFR in coastal and open-sea areas of the Bulgarian Black Sea. Since 1995 mountly observations heve been included into the monitoring programme, too. Scientific investigations include: biodiversity of the Black sea, biological peculiarities of the Black sea hydrobionts, biology and ecology of coastal lakes, changes of the Black sea ecosystem under the influence of anthropogenic factors, population genetics of sea and fresh water hydrobionts, stock dynamics of the commercial fish species, development of mari - and aquacultures in Bulgaria. The Institute of Fishery and Aquaculture dispose with following types of data: Phytoplancton - since 1991 Bacterioplankton - since 1970 Zooplankton - since 1991 Chemical data - since 1954 till now with interruption of 20 years between 1970 and 1992. Ichtiology data - For some species Data center have data since 1925 till now; Catch-at-age data for sprat, anchovy and horse mackerel since 1945 for Bulgarian Black sea coast; length-at-age composition, catches, stok assessment of sprat from Bulgarian Black sea aquatory; population parameters, maturity, condition factor, natural, fishing and total mortality estimation.
