- The State Oil Company of the Azerbayjan Republic (SOCAR) is one of the largest companies in the world. It was incorporated by combining oil-producing and oil-refining agencies of the Republic. SOCAR is involved in all aspects of the petroleum industry associated with exploring, developing and equipping oil and gas fields onshore in Azerbayjan and offshore in Azerbaycan’s sector of the Caspian Sea. It is also involved in scientific research, refining and transportation of oil and gas. SOCAR is able to fully satisfy the demands of the Republic for oil products, and exports excess products, as well. The oil industry in the Republic has adequate production capacity, a large service sector, provision for repair and replacement of spare parts, and vast scientific and technical potential. Developed infrastructure and favorable geographical position transforms Azerbaijan into powerful commercial and investment center of Caspian region. At present time, the projects such as development of “Azeri-Cirag-Guneshli” (ACG) field, “Shah-daniz” field, Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) Main Export Pipeline (SCP) are in the special focus.
