organisation profile
CIMAR is dedicated to research, and to the dissemination and transfer of technology in the area of Marine Sciences. Its main objective is to carry out basic and applied research on the processes occurring in aquatic ecosystems, including the study of impacts of human activities on these ecosystems.
CIMAR members are organised into 30 laboratories arranged in two divisions and four lines of research:
Division 1: Conservation and Management of Aquatic Ecosystems
- Ecology, Biodiversity and Management of Aquatic Ecosystems
- Environmental Chemistry and Toxicology
Division 2: Aquaculture and Marine Biotechnology
- Biology and Marine Biotechnologies
- Aquaculture
CIMAR provides also post-graduate training to students in several fields related to the Marine & Environmental area. The total number of researchers and students working at this moment in CIMAR (Porto and Algarve) is approximately 400.
