The scientific object of the Institute is to conduct research and technological development mainly in the fields of biodiversity, structure and dynamics of the ecosystem, ecosystem management and the genetics of marine organisms, to search for new and/or improved products and organisms, as well as the authentication and origin identification of organisms and their products and to research the interaction between aquacultures and the environment, to control and reinforce the physical productivity of the marine systems, as well as, to develop methodologies for best aquariums' management.
